Tips on Cavity Prevention

Posted .

Do you have a habit of getting cavities? Here are some tips to remember to keep your smile bright:

Two by Two: We all know that brushing our teeth is one of the most important things we can do for our smiles, but did you know that it’s suggested to brush twice a day for two minutes each session? Two by two. This is simple enough to remember, and foundational for good oral health.

Consistent Flossing: It is essential that you floss each and every one of your teeth every day. You’ll want to use an 18-inch piece of floss, because this allows you to use a new section of thread for each tooth. Don’t forget the back row in between your gums and last tooth. If you are just starting your flossing habit, discomfort is common. If it continues for more than a couple weeks, call your dentist.

Good Food: Strong teeth are not only about your oral hygiene routine but what you expose your mouth to in the first place. Foods rich in calcium and phosphorous, like cheese, are excellent for oral health. If you can’t have dairy, try other calcium-rich foods like beans and dark leafy greens.

Regular Dental Visits: Remember to schedule your regular dental visits at least twice every year. This allows your doctor to have current information on your teeth and spot any problems early. Professional cleanings are also excellent for your teeth and can help prevent cavities from forming.
